The Lamar Community College Rodeo team is working hard and looking forward to the 2017-2018 season. The team participates in ten rodeos within the Central Rocky Mountain Region: five in the fall and five in the spring.
This year's roster is comprised of twenty members including twelve on the women's team and eight on the men's.
"Our women's team will be led by two good returners, Tacie Canfield and Ashten Marchant," LCC Head Rodeo coach Fred Sherwood said. "Both were seated in the top ten in the region in their events, so they should do well this year."
Canfield ranked in breakaway roping, Marchant in goat tying.
Canfield (McClave, CO) and Marchant (Newcastle, WY) are also joined by returners Harley Anstead (Durango, CO), Mia Cory (Penrose, CO), Callie Gransen (Waterflow, NM), and Adrianna Ruggieri (Stockton, NJ). Newcomers to the LCC women's team are Jenaye de Seve (Colorado Springs, CO), Raina Fillmore (Boone, CO), Kyeann Gordon (Dade City, FL), Brittany Hoekwater (Manton, MI), Eryha Mora (Wiggins, CO), and Skylar Stahl (Mount Dora, FL).
The men's team includes sophomores William Chumley (Ignacio, CO) and Daniel Strain (Quitman, AR). They are joined by incoming freshmen Montana Barlow (Rock Point, AZ), Ace Coors (Loveland, CO), Nate Hoey (Montrose, CO), Austin Rowley (Lodgepole, NE), Lane Schaaf (Chromo, CO), and Cortez Waddell (Woodruff, SC).
Coach Sherwood is entering his twelfth year as the team's head coach. Assistant Coach Cole Dorenkamp, an alum of the LCC Rodeo team, is starting his fourth year.
The team will begin their fall season in Chadron, Nebraska, at the Chadron State College Rodeo on September 15-17. The team will get two rodeos under its belt before returning home for their annual Antelope Stampede on September 29-October 1.
