
The Lamar Community College golf team showed improvement this past weekend during the tournament at McCook Community College.
Players enjoyed fair weather in the McCook, Nebraska, tournament on September 28-29. They had 8mph winds on Thursday, followed by 6mph winds on Friday.
Joey Penovich led his Lopes teammates, finishing with a two-day score of 157 (81-76) and tied for sixth place. Cesar Shinall was six strokes behind his teammate, with a final score of 163 (79-84).
LCC's Kyle Colen finished with 169 (80-89), followed by Robert Heiny three strokes behind at 172 (83-89) and Geoffrey Kozlowski with 176 (91-85).
The Lopes finished in fifth place as a team with a two-day total of 657 (+81). They finished Thursday play with 323 and Friday with 334.
Eastern Wyoming College won the tournament with a team score of 605 (+29). McCook Community College came in second with 623 (+47), Northeastern took third 643 (+66), Central Wyoming fourth 643 (+67) and Otero took sixth 664 (+88).
The Lopes will travel next to Otero Junior College in La Junta on October 5-6.
