The Lamar Community College softball team won three of their four games against McCook Community College at home last weekend. LCC split on Friday with the Indians and finished the weekend with two wins on Saturday.
Friday, March 30
In the first game on Friday, the Runnin' Lopes went into the extra innings with the McCook Indians before winning the game 4-3. Freshman Nonica Rivera hit a double in the bottom of the ninth inning to score the game winning RBI for the Lopes. Sophomore Mackenzie Rowlett went 3-for-4 in the game while the combined pitching staff of freshman Emily Womeldorff and sophomore Larissa Royer struck out 11. The second matchup was also close as the Runnin' Lopes fell 5-4 to MCC. Freshman Raylene Anaya went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI, while freshman Alyvia Woolsey also knocked in two RBI going 1-for-2. Sophomores Samantha McDonald (2-for-3) and Keilee Womack (1-for-3) also contributed hits to LCC's lineup. In the circle sophomore Lauren Reed and Larissa Royer only allowed two earned runs, but McCook took advantage of LCC's defensive errors.
Saturday, March 31
On the second day, the Runnin' Lopes responded with a five-inning defeat of McCook, winning 11-0. The LCC offense exploded with 13 hits, including three Lopes who batted 1.000 (Caitlin McCarthy, McDonald, Royer), two doubles (Mercedes Salazar, Royer) a triple (McCarthy), and a homerun (Salazar). Royer struck out four and allowed only two hits in the five inning shutout of McCook. In the second game, the Lopes stayed hot at the plate, winning 10-7. LCC smacked four doubles (McCarthy, Salazar (2), Megan Sandoval) and two home runs (Royer, Sandoval), while four Runnin' Lopes recorded multiple RBI (Rowlett-3, McCarthy-2, Royer-2, Sandoval-2). In the circle, the combined pitching staff of Womeldorff and Reed allowed only one earned run for McCook.
The Lamar Community College softball team is now 29-12 overall and 19-3 in Region IX play. This week LCC will play in Nebraska against North Platte on April 5, and McCook on April 6. The Runnin' Lopes will also play at home on April 8 against Trinidad State Junior College.
