Lopes Add Two-Sport Star Abrielle Gomez to 2026 Recruiting Class
February 16, 2026
The Lamar Community College women's basketball program has announced the signing of Lamar native Abrielle Gomez. The 5'8 guard has committed to playing both basketball and volleyball for the Runnin' Lopes. Both programs expect her to have an immediate impact next season.
On the basketball court, Gomez is known as one of Colorado's best three-point shooters, a skill that has led to her scoring over 1,500 points in her high school career.
As a junior, Gomez led McClave High School to a 1A state championship while also being named 1A state player of the year. She hopes to secure one more state championship and even more personal accolades before transitioning to college hoops.
No one is more excited about bringing in Gomez than Lopes head coach Chris Godfrey:
"One of our primary focuses for this 2026 class was adding perimeter shooting. By signing Abrielle, we feel like we addressed that need, and we didn't have to travel far to do it. The most exciting part is that I think Abrielle has the potential to be so much more than a shooter. The explosiveness and agility that she shows on the volleyball court gives you an idea of her potential as a driver and defender. She has a chance to develop into a very complete player here."
Gomez joins Texas native Payton Watson as the second announced signing of the 2026 recruiting class.
